Prologue

     On a cold winter morning the body of Maggie Burnett, an eight-year-old girl, is found in the playground of the local primary school. She has been posed wearing a white linen nightdress with her thumb in her mouth and is lying in a foetal position on a bed of leaves.

      Detective Chief Inspector Elaine Edwards and her team are called in to investigate, it soon becomes clear that there are no visible signs of how the young girl has been murdered.

     Over the course of their investigation the detectives receive numerous leads spanning not only the UK but also Spain. The evidence eventually leads them to a conclusion that none of them had expected or experienced before
